Back the Blue NC donates $10,000 to fallen Henderson County deputy's children

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A nonprofit group donated $10,000 to help the children of a Henderson County deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Ryan Hendrix was shot and killed while responding to a call about a disabled vehicle in September.

Back the Blue NC was able to raise the money through donations and merchandise sales. Members said they hope it gives Hendrix's family some peace of mind.

"The majority of us love our police officers. We're friends, we're family. We feel really passionate about helping them, defending them and giving back in cases like this where somebody makes the ultimate sacrifice," Back the Blue NC founder Lindsay Licausi said.

Maj. Frank Stout accepted the check and two plaques from the group as Hendrix's parents watched. The money will be put into a trust that the Police Benevolent Association will handle.
